In 1991, Kyokuyo Shipping Company, one of the world’s major reefer shipping lines, choose Wilmington as its sole port for imports of New Zealand meat and fish to North America. The long and solid relationship between Kyokuyo Shipping and the Port of Wilmington has helped to develop the Port’s special niche in refrigerated cargo.
In January 2000, C&S Shipping Australia nominated Wilmington as it's US East Coast port of call for the import and distribution of Australian frozen beef, helping to make Wilmington the nation's leading Port for imports of palletized frozen beef.
