The Port of Wilmington, Delaware is a full-service deepwater port and marine terminal capable of handling all types of cargo.
In the decade the Port and the State of Delaware invested more than $140 million in developing new Port facilities and warehouses to position Wilmington as the nation's leading Port for imports of fresh fruit, and juice concentrate. Wilmington is the world's largest banana hub, the #1 container port on the Delaware River handling nearly 200,000 TEUs per year primarily for Dole Fresh Fruit Company and Chiquita Banana North America.
Wilmington has been a successful import/export automobile and RoRo port for the past 25 years. In 2006, over 100,000 import/export vehicles crossed Wilmington's docks, for Volkswagen, Audi, General Motors, and a number of commercial accounts. The Port of Wilmington a newly built dedicated auto-berth to enhance the automobile trade via the Port.
In addition, the Port handle a variety of break cargos such as various forest products, steel, bulk materials, and petroleum products. In recent years Wilmington has also become a popular gateway for special project cargo. |
