Fresh Fruit

Our status as the nation's leading port for imports of fresh fruit and produce shows our capability for quality handling of perishable cargo.

Dole Fresh Fruit Company and Chiquita Banana North America have made Wilmington their Hub-Port, calling Wilmington once a week year-round, with fruit to supply more than a third of the nation's population.

From December to May we handle Chilean table grapes, plums, peaches, nectarines, apples, pears and other deciduous fruit. The fruit is stored in our state-of-the-art cold storage facility until its distribution to US and Canadian markets.

During the spring months the Port welcomes the arrival of fresh apples, and pears from New Zealand.

Popular Moroccan clementines discharged in Wilmington in the fall, and are destined to Canadian markets.
