Wilmington is Volkswagen of America's Mid-Atlantic auto hub for imports of Volkswagens from Germany, Mexico and Brazil, and Audis from Germany.  Upon arrival in Wilmington, Trans World Port and Distribution Services, Inc. conducts a detailed and comprehensive "post-production check" and inspection process which insures the vehicles final quality prior to their distribution.  From Wilmington the vehicles are distributed to Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio.

General Motors selected Wilmington as its largest point of export to the Middle East. AutoPort, Inc., an ISO 9000 comprehensive  vehicle processing and modification company adjacent to the Port, modifies and customizes GM exports as well as other commercial vehicles prior to export. In recent years, AutoPort has expanded its fleet conversion work and now markets its services to exporters of fleet vehicles ranging from police cars to service utility trucks.

In yet another auto trade, Dole Fresh Fruit and Chiquita Banana carry previously owned automobile exports to Central America on their southbound container vessels.
